The solemn laying of church took place in August, 1899, since the group of Catholics appealed to the governor of Kiev to settle on building of church "in memory of stay in Kiev their Majesties" of Emperor's - Nick II. By that time in town already there was one church - Aleksandrovskiy, but, taking into account that more than 40 thousand Catholics lived in Kiev, one cathedral it was obviously not enough.

A temple was erected 10 years on offerings of private individuals. Labour costs on building of church exceeded 500 thousands ponderable then the Russian roubles. A competition was declared on creation of church project and a winner was become a student Stanislas Volovskiy. As a young engineer did not have practical experience, a revision and managing building was charged the known Kievan architect - Vladislav Gorodetsky.

A church impressed in a complete kind. He became an authentic architectural masterpiece. In that time it looked like powerful dominant, visible from every quarter of Kiev. Sanctified the temple of December, 6, 1909. Works were conducted long from the bad state of soil on which the small river, Lybid, strongly influenced. Soil was strengthened the powerful concrete printed piles, thus did it in Kiev first. Later this experience was adopted the other countries.

In 1980, in the year of Olympiad, the Nikolaevskiy church was restored and opened as a house of organ and chamber music. Especially for this hall a large concert organ was constructed. At creation of organ a masters endeavored to approach it kind to architectural style of church, which united unique architecture with a unique instrument. An organ have 55 registers, 3945 pipes of different diameter (from 13 till 6 meters), made from threw valuable breeds of tree (black and red).
