Kievan observatory - one of the oldest university observatories in Ukraine, it is more than 150 years. At an observatory was created a museum which can be visited, to give a facility to look on collection of oldest astronomic devices, and also, to admire on star sky in a telescope.

A decision about creation of the Kievan observatory was accepted in the organization period of university of Sainted Vladimir (university of Taras Shevchenko). Building of observatory, by the project of Vikentiya Beretti, was completed in the winter of 1845. An area by 3 hectares planted around on perimeter trees, which served as an additional barrier from a city dust and illumination, to the mixing astronomic supervisions. At building of tower the additional telescope in 1860 the remains of burial were found someone, grandees, there is a version, that this was the grave of prince Oleg, therefore locality, which an observatory it is, sometimes named - Oleg's mountain.

With appearance in Kiev of observatory was created service of exact time. One time in a week, every Tuesday, the Kievan watch-makers came in an observatory, to collate the clock with astronomic, an amendment for which was determined preliminary at night on the special temporal stars. Only in a 1920-kh observatory was equipped a radio receiver, whereupon began to specify time not by the astronomic measuring, but by means of reception of radio signals which was passed services of exact time.

Astronomic equipment for the Kievan observatory was ordered in Petersburg and Europe. Now it is in the working state and is the decoration of observatories museum. Here read lectures and show nightly excursions - every persons interested can look through a telescope on Moon, Mars and even comets.
